This is a post about a post.

I love this post by Marya Zilberberg.

Marya (I hope it’s ok we’re on a first-name basis) recently attended TEDMED and has posted a brief review of her experience with links to a few of her favorite speakers who she “fell in love with”. I haven’t read about each person yet because what grabbed me was her description of “falling in love with” these people. I know so well that feeling of “falling in love” with someone who has just shared an intimate experience that makes you feel like you might be soulmates (or at least not a total lunatic), or who offers a new way of seeing that touches your heart, makes you hope, and/or inspires you to do great things.

Describing it as “falling in love” is so perfect. There’s been quite a few times that I’ve felt the same way but reframed the feeling into a more “appropriate” or “professional” parlance and in so doing, may have stripped away the very humanness, vulnerability, and essence of the experience.

So thank you Marya for being brave enough to call it what it is—love—and thank you Adam Dole who leads me to so many inspiring people—including himself.

Now, go read her post!

I believe in higher beings but “God” comes with too many preconceived definitions and associations for me to embrace the name. That said, this incredibly moving talk by Jim Gilliam speaks to a truth I can fully embrace. Life is about connection and believe it or not, we are all connected.

And on the subject of interconnectedness, a few weeks ago I had the fortune to attend the Being Human 2012 conference. Many insightful and interesting aspects of humanity were discussed (which I’ll hopefully write about soon). Tiffany Shlain was there to show one of her newest endeavors, Declaration of Interdependence, which blew me away. Watch it full screen.

In an effort to connect deeper with friends and life, I’ve been experimenting with being more present. “Being present” means different things for each person but for me, it means being curious, being in the moment, and trying not to act (and react) in habitual ways that no longer serve me well.

Luckily, I’m pretty good with all the others below though truth be told, I always thought I spelled “complement” that way because I spent my formative years in England and they have a few spelling differences. I still spell grey with an “e”.

A little over a week ago, the Institute for the Future laid out the Future of Science 2021 Map. A little over a month ago, Michell Zappa created his interactive table that plots out the direction of emerging trends in technology.

And it just keeps coming. Global Agenda Council on Emerging Technologies takes a stab at naming emerging technologies that will likely have major social, economic, and environmental impacts in 2012. Among them: informatics, synthetic biology, and the Green Revolution 2.0—which seeks to maximize returns on food production while minimizing the environmental toll.

Bonus! Technologies from Fiction to Reality timeline:

I came across this list of random subjects to photograph each day in February. I decided to use it as a no-pressure way to learn how to use my iPhone camera and the all-pervasive Instagram App.

O M G

I am hooked! To it all.

I love FatMumSlim‘s blog (and honestly, I don’t read that many blogs – if any…) and really love the subjects for each day — so open for interpretation and easy if I ran out of time.

Having my iPhone handy was convenient and Instagram’s filters are (gritting teeth) really kinda cool.

None of the photographs are award-winning – they don’t need to be. It’s simply an exercise to be aware each day. To capture that one element. And to share.

I’m planning on doing #marchphotoaday as well. Hope you’ll join!

I love big ideas. I love talking about the possibilities of science and technology. About evolution and the future. I love insights into human behavior—especially where the brain is concerned. And I know just enough about physics to think it’s mystical and sexy.

Some folks got together at a conference hosted by Institute for the Future‘s Technology Horizons Program to explore some of these big ideas. The result: the Future of Science 2021 Map (below).

I would have loved to be a part of that exploration. I’m strongly intuitive and a great brainstormer but facts and figures are not my strong suit. I could certainly help those enmeshed in science to conceptualize. I’d be great at it (just throwing that out there for any scientists who might be reading ).

So for the love of big ideas, enjoy this amazing map of the future.

It’s 6 main concepts: Decrypting the Brain, Hacking Space, Massively Multiplayer Data, Sea the Future, Strange Matter, and Engineered Evolution. It’s a beautiful compliment to Michell Zappa‘s Envisioning Technology interactive table.
